Champagne DRAPPIER CARTE D'OR Brut fully reveals the aromas of the noble Pinot Noir grape variety, which makes up at least 80% of the blend. This black grape with white juice is prized not only for its structure, but also for its delicate notes of red fruits, which give it a distinctive character.
DOMAIN
The family vineyard now covers 62 hectares, not including plots under association contracts. Located primarily in the commune of Urville, it reflects the unique identity of the Bar-sur-Aube district, heavily influenced by Pinot Noir. This grape variety predominates and makes up 70% of the estate, supplemented by 15% Pinot Meunier, 9% Chardonnay, and 6% old grape varieties.
The history of this estate dates back nearly 2,000 years, when the Gallo-Romans began planting vines on the hillside of a villa that would later become Urville in the Middle Ages. In 1116, Saint Bernard, who came from the Abbey of Cîteaux near Clos Vougeot, reorganized the vineyard by importing Morillon Noir, the ancestor of Pinot, from Burgundy. He also built several wineries, including one in Urville, which became an annex of Bavin-Saint Eulalie in 1152. All of these properties were attached to the great Abbey of Clairvaux, founded by Saint Bernard, which spread throughout medieval Europe. By his death in 1153, wine production had reached nearly 600,000 liters, mostly shipped in barrels, as glass was rare and expensive at the time.
Proximity to the vines is essential for closely monitoring the plants' development and their interaction with the environment. This local vineyard has allowed the family to strengthen its sustainable viticulture practices, leading to "Organic Agriculture" certification.
