A superb nose of very ripe fruit with hazelnut. The palate is carried by a large acidity, on ripe yellow fruits, fat and tension. Big length. A unique style. Baptiste Valette is Philippe's younger brother and he is also a remarkable winemaker. He took over from their father, notably to produce these two gems: Clos Reyssié and Clos de Monsieur Noly. And he assures, Baptiste! Clos Reyssié is big. Biodynamics and mini sulfur.
Pouilly-Fuissé Le Clos Reyssié should be considered as a grand cru because of its terroir, and as an extraordinary wine because of the attention given to it by Philippe Valette. More than 9 years of breeding! A great wine of emotion for those who will have the chance to taste it.
DOMAIN
Philippe Valette is a wine lover, respectful of the soil and the vines and an outstanding winemaker. 15 hectare estate located in the Mâconnais.
A fan of highly ripe harvests and long aging. The wines combine power and minerality, expressing an incomparable style.
The estate has been organically cultivated for over 20 years now. Located in Chaintré, straddling the Maconnais and Beaujolais, the vines are composed of Chardonnay only.
The estate has followed the principles of biodynamics since 1992. The natural balance of the soil and the vines are at the heart of the concerns here. Regular scratching of the soil and grassing encourage deep development of the root system.
In principle, the estate does not subscribe to organic certification because Philippe considers that “it is up to the conventional to be transparent about their practices” and not for him to prove that he works without chemicals. He never wanted to pay to be free to work on the living.
Very long aging on lees (72 months for certain vintages!) and in barrels, without racking, carefully refine the wines and reveal all the grandeur of the Domaine's terroirs. A non-existent or very small amount of sulfur is used in each of the wines, which are neither filtered nor fined.
