The Grand Clos des Epenots is a monopoly of the Domaine. This 4.89 hectare enclosure is located north of Pommard, at the start of the hillside and oriented east-west. The clay-limestone soil is brown and has many limestone pebbles. Its depth is 40 to 60cm. Its structure is filtering. The vineyard, which is around sixty years old on average, produces wines with aromas of red or black fruits but also very ripe white fruits, peaches or apricots. The tannins in large quantities are fine and totally integrated into the softness and aromas.
Service at 15°C.

DOMAIN

Domaine de Courcel is a four-century-old family estate, located in the town of Pommard, in Côte-d'Or. Its current owners, three sisters and a brother, are the descendants of the founders. It is directed by Anne Bommelaer and Marie de Courcel.

Pommard, four kilometers south of Beaune, extends its vines on the southern slopes of the Côte de Beaune and is home to one of the best-known vineyards of red Burgundy.

Established on 10.5 hectares, Domaine de Courcel produces some of the best red wines on the Côte. Made from the great red grape variety of Burgundy, Pinot Noir, its wines are characterized by their minerality, elegance and powerful tannins which blend into beautiful aromas of red fruits and toasted bread.

Most of the vineyard is made up of prestigious “Premier Cru” appellations, which makes the Domaine one of the largest properties in Pommard Premiers Crus. These appellations are as follows: Le Grand Clos des Epenots, Les Rugiens, Les Fremiers, Les Croix Noires.

These Pommard Premiers Crus are very famous, in particular Le Grand Clos des Epenots – which represents around 50% of production – and Les Rugiens, two very great Burgundy wines.

The Domaine also produces a Pommard Vaumuriens as well as a Bourgogne Pinot Noir and, in white, a Burgundy Chardonnay.

Production, limited to approximately 30,000 bottles per year, is sold throughout the world. The wines are regularly cited and commented on in authoritative French and foreign publications in the field of oenology.
