Château Rouget appears as early as 1700 in the archives and land register, and is considered one of the oldest official wines of Pomerol. It was in fact during this period that the castle was built by the Bayonne family. Its last representative, Pierre Bayonne, was mayor of Pomerol under the Consulate and the First Empire. An experienced winegrower, he set out throughout his life to make Rouget the showcase of his know-how.
At the end of the 19th century, a classification of Pomerol wines placed Rouget among the five best wines of the appellation. This flattering judgment is undoubtedly due to this remarkable consistency on the part of the successive owners of the Domaine who have always worked with the sole aim of producing exceptional wines.
The Labruyère family finds its origins in the Beaujolais region, where it has owned a wine estate in the Moulin-à-Vent appellation since 1850.
