Xynomavro is to Greece what Cabernet-Sauvignon is to Bordeaux and Nebbiolo is to Barolo. A wine with generally quite powerful tannins with good aging potential.
While other vintages have proven to be more powerful and full-bodied, this one was more finesse, less full-bodied but still with good concentration.
It reveals itself on the nose with notes of red fruit cream as well as a hint of sour red fruits of beautiful freshness.
On the palate the aromas perceived on the nose linger pleasantly with beautiful notes of sweet spices and notes of very ripe red fruits. Good acidity and balanced, supple and round tannins.
You will pair well with charcuterie dishes, veal liver and grilled pork.
DOMAIN
The Dalamaras Winery continues a tradition that has its origins in the mid-19th century. The family of winegrowers has great experience, because already in 1840 Ioannis Georgios Dalamaras created his first vineyard in Naoussa (the family keeps the purchase contract for the first vineyard plot, dated from that year). From then until today, his descendants have been inseparably linked to viticulture, wine production and trade. The vineyard has been cultivated organically since 1996 and certified by BIO Hellas. In 2008 the first efforts were made to implement biodynamic practices and the Maria Thun calendar. Located at an altitude of 250 to 350 meters, this vineyard is mainly cultivated in clay-limestone soil. The grape varieties were selected following diligent research, based on the particularities of the soil of each vineyard plot. Xynomavro – “black acid” – is the main variety of the vine, but Merlot and Negoska are also present, while white wines are represented by Malagousia, Asyrtiko and Roditis. However, the total extent of the estate does not exceed 50,000 m². Still from the perspective of organic viticulture, the small volume of production essentially makes manual work possible and the reduction in the use of tractors and other mechanisms.
