This vintage quickly sets the tone by displaying a generous and refined style.

This is an expressive Saumur-Champigny with black fruits and flowers. Its bouquet is particularly refined and harmonious where red fruits mingle with a very distinguished spicy palette.

On the palate, the control of tannins is impressive with lots of fruit in a velvety and juicy flesh. Very beautiful expression of a Cabernet-Franc harvested at good maturity.

18 months of aging.

40 year old vine on clay-loamy-sandy soil on medium Turonian.

DOMAIN

It was in 2010 that Sylvain Dittière (known as Tonton) set up as a winemaker in Montreuil-Bellay south of Saumur. Sylvain's white and red wines have freshness, delicacy, suppleness, minerality, elegance and finesse. He is a welcoming, open winemaker, very sure of the wines he wants to make. He moved in at the age of 24 and already has a few years of learning under his belt and not just anywhere. Domaine Gauby, Cyril Fahl - Roussillon, Thierry Germain - Saumur and Saumur-Champigny, Château Yvonne - Saumur-Champigny, Marc Tempé - Alsace, and finally the legendary Clos Rougeard. He is also the son-in-law of Françoise and the late Charly Foucault since he lived with Pauline (sister of Antoine Foucault – Domaine du Collier).

In 2010, Sylvain farmed (3 ha) and bought grapes. The estate now consists of 8.5 ha with new plots recently acquired which will soon produce a white (Chenin) and red (Cabernet Franc) vintage. He works the plots meticulously and does a lot of work in the vines. During the harvest, he is at the end of the chain and carries out the final sorting himself. The plot of whites gives rise to 2 vintages, Saut-Mignon (Sauvignon) and La Perlée (normally in Saumur, more often in Vin de France) made with Chenins aged 60 to 90 years. This vintage is made for aging. This is also the case for its red Saumur, Les Cormiers (Cabernet Franc aged around 60 years, on hard limestone and flint soils).

The aging is long, on average 24 months, in barrels housed in this incredible cellar. The fourth vintage (La Porte Saint-Jean) is also a red in the Saumur-Champigny appellation. 100% Cabernet Franc vintage also but with younger vines, on more clayey soils. Aging is shorter, around 18 months. This is a fresher red wine, delicious than the previous one but without lacking finesse and elegance. Also note that there are still 2 new vintages in maturation, certainly for sale in 2019 or 2020, coming from new plots recently acquired. Breeding is precisely a trademark of Sylvain and he is fortunate to benefit from a magnificent buried tufa cellar dating from the 16th century whose temperature is constant. Here the cellar is at the top and the barrels at the bottom, in the underground cellar, and the work is done by gravity during the barreling. Constant temperature, long aging without addition. When starting, Sylvain sulfites a little (around 30 mg of SO2). For many tasters and for several years now, there has been a little (a lot) of Clos Rougeard know-how. Charly can find a little serenity up there, with the work carried out by his son Antoine and his son-in-law Sylvain.
