Ktima Gerovassiliou was founded in 1981 and is located approximately 25 km southwest of Thessaloniki. Today, Assyrtiko, Malagousia, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Viognier vines are cultivated on 48 hectares. Red grape varieties include Syrah, Red Grenache, Merlot, Limnio, Mavroudi, Mavrotragano and other local Greek grape varieties. The region's climate is characterized as Mediterranean, with its mild winter and cool to hot summer cooled by sea breezes. Vangelis Gerovassiliou studied agronomy in Thessaloniki, then obtained his oenology diploma and tasting certificates at the University of Bordeaux. In 1981, he began the renaissance of viticulture in his hometown of Epanomi. He built a small, but state-of-the-art, winery there in 1986. In 1983, he founded his own estate vineyards in Epanomi. He and his wife Sonia Tziola gave birth to three children who will continue to carry on the tradition of winemaking in the Epanomi region.
