According to legend, Empress Poppée inspired the name of the village of Saint-Romain-de- Popey, where she stayed with Nero, Roman emperor. After four decades of care by our ancestors, these vines, located on the eponymous ridge, can now express the full potential of their granite terroir through this cuvée. This Gamay is on tangy red fruits revealing a festive and joyful palate!

Emmanuel Rostaing-Tayard grew up in Savigny. It was his paternal grandparents who passed on to him the love of nature, viticulture and wine. Curious by nature, he first left to explore other worlds. It was finally after the death of his grandparents in 2016 that he gave in to returning to the land. He then began a professional reconversion supplemented by several experiences in other wine-growing lands, in France and abroad. In 2020, he had the opportunity to save the last plots of Savigny Gamay at the last minute. The village, once considered a cradle of viticulture, has seen its wine-growing lands disappear one by one in favor of real estate construction. After arduous work, he managed to preserve the last square of old Récy vines, restore it and thus become “the irreducible winegrower of Savigny”, the only winegrower to sculpt the landscape of the commune. Since then, it has covered 9 hectares in the villages of Savigny (Côteaux du Lyonnais) and Saint-Romain-de-Popey (Beaujolais), all managed organically and biodynamically. The preparations are notably made from 100% local plants, grown and transformed by his sister Claire, a farmer herbalist in Savigny.
