The blend of Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2012 gives a large place to Cabernet Sauvignons
(76%) thus offering it a beautiful balanced structure illustrating all the potential of its
vineyard. This wine has a beautiful, intense dark red color. The bouquet reveals
aromas of ripe black fruits and crème de cassis, complemented by spicy notes of beautiful freshness. The attack on the palate, precise and dense, opens with charming, melted and persistent tannins. The whole forms a beautiful unit giving a beautiful compromise of purity and elegance. This 2012 once again highlights the richness of expression of this beautiful Pauillac terroir which will harmoniously complete the collection of Grand-Puy-Lacoste vintages.

DOMAIN

Founded in the 16th century, Château Grand Puy Lacoste is a 5th Grand Cru Classé from Pauillac. Owned by the Borie family, it has been managed since 1998 by François-Xavier Borie. Its 55 hectare vineyard is planted with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. After fermentation in stainless steel vats, the wine matures for 16 to 18 months in partially new oak barrels.

Grand-Puy-Lacoste, a wine estate with a rich family history, has its roots in history since the 16th century. Its name, taken from the old expression "puy", testifies to its location on a hillock where the first growths of the Médoc flourished. Since then, this estate has been passed down from generation to generation, marked by matrimonial alliances between families, before returning to the family fold in 1978 with the Bories.

The history of Grand-Puy-Lacoste is closely linked to the evolution of its property. From Mr. de Guiraud to Mr. d'Issac, through alliances with the families of Jehan and Saint Guirons, the estate has seen its name evolve through marriages and inheritances. It was in the 19th century, with the marriage between François Lacoste and Marie-Jeanne de Saint Guirons, that the estate took the name Lacoste, while retaining the memory of past alliances.

Pierre-Frédéric Lacoste, succeeding his parents, marked the history of Grand-Puy-Lacoste with his daring initiatives, including the reconstruction of the castle in 1855. That same year, the estate was officially recognized by entering the prestigious classification of 1855 of the Grands Crus Classés of Bordeaux, thus confirming its centuries-old reputation.

The importance of the 1855 classification for Grand-Puy-Lacoste cannot be underestimated. Established by the Syndicat des Courtiers de Commerce de Bordeaux, this classification is based on the constant quality of the wines, evaluated over decades and exempt from fluctuations linked to vintages. This historic classification, which raised Grand-Puy-Lacoste to the rank of fifth growth, remains an essential reference in the world of wine.

Today, Grand-Puy-Lacoste continues to embody the excellence and tradition of the great wines of the Médoc. Its vineyard, unchanged since 1855, represents an exceptional wine heritage, testifying to the passion and commitment of the families who have succeeded one another at its helm. As a Borie property, the estate carries a precious mission: to preserve and promote this exceptional wine heritage for future generations.
