Fattorie Romeo del Castello, a family property for centuries, is today managed by Rosanna Romeo del Castello and her daughter Chiara Vigo. The Fattorie enjoy a privileged location, at the confluence of three natural parks: the Etna Park, the Nebrodi Park and the Alcantara River Park. A short walk from the medieval town of Randazzo, the property sits at an altitude of around seven hundred meters and borders the Alcantara River. It is no coincidence that this place with its splendid landscapes was called Contrada Allegracore in the past.
The volcanic eruption of 1981 buried a large part of the property, which was devoted to hazelnuts and olive trees, under lava. The extraordinary spectacle of a lava flow which miraculously diverted its course in front of the old vineyard, sparing the farm buildings from the end of the 18th century, is still present.
The current property extends over more than thirty hectares, intended for vines, pear trees, olive trees and oak and chestnut woods. Preference is given to the cultivation of autochthonous varieties, such as the Nerello Mascalese grape and the Nocellara dell'Etna olive. The vineyard is located in the territory of Etna DOC and consists of three hectares of century-old vines and ten hectares planted in 2004.
