This Chouilly – Le Fond du Bateau 2018 vintage from Philippe Lancelot is a fine, delicate and creamy Blanc de Blancs.

The Chardonnays for this cuvée are taken in Chouilly from a plot below the place called “Montaigu”, famous for its hunting lodge overlooking this magnificent vineyard classified as a grand cru of the Côte des Blancs.

The grapes harvested at optimal maturity guarantee the wine a beautiful balance.

This Chouilly – Le Fond du Bateau 2018 vintage was vinified in vats and oak barrels, and the champagne is undosed and unsulfured, to allow the wine to retain its elegance and beautiful tension.

This champagne, with its golden color and refined bubbles, reveals delicate aromas of citrus fruits, lemon and grapefruit, pear and a light touch of brioche. On the palate, it offers a silky roundness, with an intense and mineral finish. It will be enjoyed as an aperitif as well as with salmon, tuna or shellfish.

DOMAIN

Philippe Lancelot fervently took over the Y. Lancelot Wanner estate, owned by his parents launched in the 1970s. He joined them in 2004, before taking the reins in 2007. The estate, located mainly in Cramant, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs is also made up of plots in Avize, Chouilly, Oiry, Epernay and Ay. This native of Champagne, wanting to become a sommelier since his adolescence, left to learn his skills in New Zealand.
Now at the head of four hectares, the winemaker produces very high quality champagnes, with the idea of best illustrating the quintessence of each terroir. He seeks to bring out the unique DNA of each vintage, intervening sparingly in the vinification of the juices. The vineyard has been in biodynamic cultivation since 2012. Philippe Lancelot likes to create his labels according to his imagination and his very interpretation of the wine before its release. Its vintages, designed for aging, are very lightly dosed, if at all.
All the vintages currently marketed contain tiny or no doses of sulfur. Bottles from this estate are relatively rare, and the entire production represents only 20,000 bottles.
