A vintage of extreme climatic contrasts, 2019 was marked by a summer of scorching temperatures. At the beginning of September, the return to freshness and humidity ensured the serenity of the harvest with very good maturity. All the qualities of Compassant are present in a remarkable way: intense aromas of raspberries and blackberries, slightly spicy. It is a wine combining power and balance, perfectly expressing the exceptional terroir of Compassant.
An exceptional terroir which benefits from a double exposure: on the plateau which dominates the right bank of the Dordogne and on the side of a south-facing hillside.
It is mainly composed of clay-limestone soil in varying proportions depending on the plots alternating with some areas of gravel.
On a 35 hectare property, 6 hectares of Merlot vines aged between 12 and 45 years are currently planted. A new plantation of 2.5 hectares in 2017 and 2018, including 75 hectares of Cabernet Franc, will be added to production from 2020.
