Succeeding the Charmolüe dynasty, Martin and Olivier Bouygues acquired Château Montrose in 2006, in love with this vintage, the tasting of which Francis Bouygues, their father, introduced them to. Aware of the potential of this unique terroir, they decided to invest in this Grand Cru whose assets and richness they measured.
Under their leadership, Montrose marks its entry into the 21st century with a spectacular project. This exceptional renovation project will last seven years (2007-2013), a duration justified by the desire to respect the major activity cycles of the property. Covering 10,000m², the renovation responds to four challenges set by Martin and Olivier Bouygues:
– Give Château Montrose the best wine-growing equipment, including a new 1000m² and 11-metre-high cellar, dedicated to the tailor-made aging of its great wines,
– Explore and implement all energy saving and production opportunities, in particular through the use of geothermal energy and the installation of 3000m² of photovoltaic panels on the roofs of buildings, – Respect the environment and reduce significantly the carbon footprint of the domain,
– Maintain the architectural ensemble of Château Montrose in the 18th century style typical of the Bordeaux region.
