Sold under the name “Château Margaux 2ème vin”, it took its definitive name of Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux in 1908. The quality of the Pavillon Rouge has become much closer to that of the first wine.

The wine has a pretty intense ruby color with lots of sparkle. Its nose is precise with notes of blackcurrant, blackberries, raspberries, vanilla, nutmeg, mocha. The palate is ample, the tannic structure is silky and is balanced by the beautiful freshness of the wine which brings its dynamism to the finish.

DOMAIN

The vineyard occupies 94 hectares out of the 262 on the estate. The red grape varieties (cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc) represent 82 hectares , supplemented by 12 hectares of sauvignon blanc, the only white grape variety produced by the Château.

The red wines ferment in oak vats and are aged for 18 to 24 months in new oak barrels. The Grand Vin is remarkable for its elegance, density and intensity . Boasting tremendous aging potential, it evolves over the years towards even greater aromatic complexity while retaining extraordinary finesse, the quintessence of the style of the Margaux appellation.

The Pavillon Rouge of Château Margaux, the estate's second wine, offers a complexity and length that does not have to envy those of the Grand Vin. A subtle blend of power and sweetness, it also has excellent aging potential and can be kept for 10, 15 years or even more.
