As an immediate extension of very great wines, the terroir of Château La Commanderie benefits from a quality of gravel which gives it an exceptional character. If its main plot overlooks the Gironde on the highest ridge of the commune, the other two compete in the size of their neighborhood: the first is contiguous to Château Montrose, the second is located on a slope of very compact gravel, between Cos d 'Estournel and Lafon-Rochet, facing Lafite-Rothschild.
Château La Commanderie is a rich, suave and concentrated wine, with a silky texture and beautiful balance. This wine combines an intense bouquet of ripe fruit in harmony with the toast of the wood and a persistent and generous palate, built on melted tannins and a beautiful freshness on the finish.
DOMAIN
Château La Commanderie is one of those hidden gems of Saint-Estèphe, which has managed to remain reasonable while in the prestigious Médoc appellations, many have become inaccessible.
In 1956, Gabriel Meffre, then a nurseryman, fell in love with the region and bought his first hectares of vines next to Château Montrose. In 1961, he offered his vineyard a magnificent 18th century castle. Claude Meffre succeeded his father in 1996 and fully invested in the management and development of the estate. It has maintained the Cru Bourgeois Classification effective since 1932.
