DOMAIN

Since his marriage to François Clicquot in 1798, Barbe-Nicole  Clicquot led, as befitted a woman of her background, the uneventful life of a wife and mother, devoting most of her time to raising her daughter Clémentine. The sudden death of her husband threw everything into question. Widowed at twenty-eight, Barbe-Nicole nevertheless chose to take over from François and fully assume the management of the House. Nicknamed the "Grande Dame de Champagne," she was the first woman to run a champagne house.
