A great Côtes du Rhône and a hidden gem in the portfolio, the 2012 Serine boasts an inky purple color accompanied by abundant aromas of mineralized black fruits, pepper, ground herbs, and smoke. Medium-bodied, concentrated, rich, and chewy, this wine should be drunk over the next 3 to 5 years.

DOMAIN

Montirius, a 58-hectare estate, has been converted to biodynamic farming since 1996, covering the AOC Vacqueyras, AOC Gigondas, and AOC Côtes du Rhône appellations. Since 1999, all the wines have been produced using organic and biodynamic grapes, making the estate the first vineyard to be certified biodynamic in the Vacqueyras and Gigondas appellations. Montirius is thus located in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail, under the gaze of Mont Ventoux. If you are lucky enough to visit Montirius, you will notice that the place exudes an air of gentle southern tranquility.

Montirius is the contraction of the first names of Christine & Eric Saurel's 3 children: MON (Manon) + TI (Justine) + RIUS (Marius). It is a family estate for 5 generations, located in the southern Rhône Valley in the AOC Vacqueyras Gigondas appellations. In 1980, Max Saurel, Eric's father, stopped using chemical fertilizers, already sensing their negative effects on the soil and people. Eric, who has worked on the estate for 26 years, is driven by the constant search for the right balance, to obtain great terroir wines. He converted the estate to Bio-Dynamic cultivation in 1996 before building his new cellar in 2002.
