In terms of olfaction, this wine presents a pleasant, delicate and enveloping intensity. There is an explosion of juicy fruit and a presence of roasted and grilled notes. The charming and spontaneous character of the nose reveals an exceptional mastery of barrel aging. On the palate, the entry is lively and bright, highlighting an immediate expression of the fruit. This sensation is followed by a dense, opulent and structured mouthfeel, leaving a memorable persistence on the finish.
DOMAIN
António Madeira, a French winemaker of Portuguese origin, made the decision in 2010 to return to the land of his ancestors, the Serra da Estrela. This sub-region of Dão was once recognized as one of the most prestigious terroirs for vines, producing what was called the "Grands Crus of the Dão highlands". It is at the foot of these mountains, the highest in Portugal, that António carefully identified plots of old planted vines, distinguished by the typicity of the grape varieties, the quality of the granite soil and an ideal exposure.
The philosophy of the estate is guided by a fundamental principle: respect for the soil, the plant and the fruit, with the aim of focusing on the essential, namely the authentic expression of the Serra da Estrela terroir. To achieve this objective, António Madeira banned the use of any pesticides, preferring to work his soil with horses. This philosophy naturally extends to the cellars, with the use of native yeasts and fermentations in open vats.
